Where it is
Our retreats take place at Shanticentre, a yoga centre near the medieval town of Atri in Abruzzo, central Italy. It is a quiet, unhurried part of the country, with hill towns, countryside and the Adriatic coast nearby, and very little to rush towards.
Mornings begin with gentle yoga and meditation, and the rest of the day is yours: rest, swim, read, sleep, or simply sit and enjoy the view.

Everything to know before you go
Getting there
A free transfer is included both ways on the agreed travel days, from and back to Pescara airport or Pescara bus station only. Everyone travels together on one agreed flight or bus, so please don't book anything until we have confirmed the times with you.
Any other transfer is charged at taxi rate, for example a taxi to or from Pineto train station is €35 per car.
Flights: Stansted to Pescara, or Bristol to Rome. If you fly into Rome, you'll need to make your own way from the airport to Pescara bus station, where we meet you. Please check the times with us before booking, as late evening arrivals may not suit the transfer.
It helps us to know your flight details, a contact number and roughly how much luggage you are bringing.
Rooms
Rooms are shared. There are only one or two single rooms, available for a single occupancy supplement. Do ask us about availability when you book.
There is a hairdryer in each bedroom.
Food
Shanticentre is strictly vegetarian, so please don't bring meat or fish onto the premises. Meals are high quality, with plenty of fresh vegetables and pulses.
A dairy-free or vegan menu is available at no extra cost. A wheat-free menu is available for a £25 supplement for the week. Both need booking well in advance.
The menu can't be changed once you arrive, and the centre can't cater for gluten-free diets. If you have an intolerance or severe allergy, please get in touch before booking.
On one evening the group eats out at a local restaurant, with transport provided. The meal usually costs €20 to €25 per person.
Money and extras
Everything at the centre is paid in euros, cash only, as there are no card facilities. Cashpoints are available in Atri and Pineto.
Most guests spend €150 to €200 over the week on extras.
Massage with the centre's therapist is €60 per hour, paid in cash at the end of your stay. Swedish, deep tissue and Ayurvedic are usually offered, and you can reserve in advance or on arrival.
Beer, local wine, snacks and soft drinks are available at the centre, along with yoga clothes, CDs and greetings cards.
What to bring
Walking shoes, insect repellent, slippers or flip flops, and any medication you may need (antihistamine too, if you might want it).
Marine-friendly sun cream only, please, as other kinds react with the pool chemicals.
Warm clothes and waterproofs, depending on the season. The forecast changes quickly, so check it before you pack.
Extra towels if you'd like them. One pool towel and one bath towel are provided.
Good to know
All yoga equipment is provided: mats, blankets, belts, blocks, bolsters, bricks and a few tennis and massage balls.
There is wifi, but it may not be as fast as you are used to.
Travel insurance is a condition of booking.
Before you book
Retreat terms & conditions
These terms apply to our residential retreats at Shanticentre in Abruzzo. They explain how booking works, what is included, and what happens if plans change. Paying your deposit means you accept them.
£200 deposit
A £200 deposit per person holds your place, and it is non-refundable.
Flights are yours to book
Flights are not included. You arrange and book your own flights.
Travel insurance
Please take out travel insurance when you book, covering cancellation and medical care.
Booking your place
Places on our Italy retreats are limited and are held in the order deposits arrive. A £200 deposit per person secures yours.
Your place is confirmed once we have received your deposit and sent you a booking confirmation by email. Please read it and tell us straight away if anything looks wrong.
The deposit
The £200 deposit is non-refundable. It is what holds your room and your place, and it is not returned if you change your mind, cancel, or are unable to travel for any reason.
Paying the deposit means you accept these terms.
Paying the balance
The balance is the retreat price less your deposit, and it is due by the date shown in your booking confirmation.
If the balance has not reached us by that date we may need to release your place, and the deposit stays non-refundable. If money is tight, talk to us early and we will always try to work something out with you.
All prices are per person and in pounds sterling (GBP).
Flights and travelling to the retreat
Flights are not included. Booking them is your own arrangement and your own booking.
We do not sell, arrange or manage flights, and we are not responsible for airline timetable changes, delays, cancellations or lost luggage. Please give yourself room to arrive calmly rather than cutting it fine.
Arrival and departure times to aim for, and any transfers we have arranged, are set out in your booking confirmation.
What is included
Everything included in your retreat is listed in your booking confirmation. Anything not listed there is not included, for example flights, travel insurance, transfers outside the agreed group times and personal spending.
If you need to cancel
Please tell us as soon as you know, using the contact page on our website, so we can make arrangements.
The £200 deposit is non-refundable, whatever the reason.
Your balance is refunded only if you find a replacement for your place: someone who takes your spot and pays for the retreat in your stead. Once their payment has cleared, we will refund your balance, less the deposit.
If no replacement is found, the balance is not refunded and your place is released.
Refunds are paid back to the original payment method.
If we need to change or cancel a retreat
Very occasionally we may have to change or cancel a retreat, for instance if we do not reach the numbers needed for it to go ahead. If we cancel, we will refund everything you have paid to us, including the deposit.
We cannot refund or cover flights, transfers or other travel costs you have booked, which is why insurance that covers cancellation matters.
Travel insurance
Please take out travel insurance when you book your flights, and check that it covers medical treatment, cancellation, cutting your trip short, delays and your luggage.
Do check it covers gentle yoga and any pre-existing conditions you have.
Your health and wellbeing
Please tell us at booking about any injury, medical condition, pregnancy or recent surgery, so we can look after you properly.
Our practice is gentle and you will never be pushed. Yoga is not a substitute for medical advice though, so if you are unsure whether a retreat is right for you, check with your doctor first.
You are free to rest, sit out or stop at any point, and to ask for whatever you need.
Rooms and who you are travelling with
Rooms and any sharing arrangements are set out in your booking confirmation. If you are travelling with someone and would like to be together, tell us when you book.
Photographs
We sometimes take photographs during a retreat. If you would rather not be in them, just tell us and we will make sure you are not.
Your details
We use the details you give us to manage your booking, take payment and keep you informed about your retreat.
If you have joined our mailing list, you will also receive occasional news and first word on future dates. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we never sell or share your details.
Anything else
If any of this is unclear, or you would like to ask about something before you book, please get in touch using the contact page. We would much rather answer a question now than have you worry about it later.
